Key Verse
“And they mourned, and wept, and fasted until even, for Saul, and for Jonathan his son, and for the people of the LORD, and for the house of Israel; because they were fallen by the sword.” 2 Samuel 1:12

Text — 2 Samuel 1:5-16
Message

David helped Israel to defeat the champion of the Philistines called Goliath of Gath. This happened at a time when there was no body in Israel willing to risk his life to face Goliath in a battle, not even king Saul. David stepped out and confronted Goliath with faith in the living God. He overcame Goliath and delivered the nation of Israel from bondage. Instead of being appreciated and regarded, king Saul hated David and persecuted him. He made David to run out of town and to face so many dangers. But God protected and kept David and the people that followed him.

In our Bible passage, news came that king Saul (the enemy of David) and Jonathan were dead. What do you expect David to do? Celebrate? Dance? Rejoice? No. David did not do any of these. Instead, David tore his clothes, mourned and fasted with all the people that were with him. He expressed great sorrow, despite king Saul’s wicked acts towards him. Do you wish a boy or girl that offended you death or any bad thing to happen to him or her? this is not the mind of a true Christian. David did not rejoice when bad things happened to somebody who hated him. Do not hate or repay evil for evil. Let the love of Christ be in your heart always.
