DCLM Daily Manna – Believers’ Authority

DCLM Daily Manna 15 August 2024 Devotional By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — “Believers’ Authority”

TOPIC: “Believers’ Authority” (DCLM Daily Manna 15 August 2024)

KEY VERSE: “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you” (Luke 10:19).

TEXT: Luke 10:17-20 (KJV)

17 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.

18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.

19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

20 Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.

MESSAGE:

A gentleman had an appointment for half past seven in the morning. He would have to cover about thirty kilometres. Unfortunately, he was delayed by an argument with his spouse. When he eventually left in anger, it was at quarter past seven. He drove very fast, mostly above speed limit, but was flagged down on the last turn by a young policewoman who acted under state authority. He had no option than to stop.

In like manner, Christ gave power and authority to the seventy disciples He sent to the evangelism field. On their return, they narrated their striking experiences: demons submitted to their authority at the mention of the name of Jesus. The Lord told them not to celebrate because demons were subject unto them, but rather because their names were written in heaven. Our victory is derived from Christ because God has given Him a name above all names. We can exercise this authority both in the field of evangelism and in our everyday life. Jesus told the disciples that he saw Satan fall from heaven in complete defeat. The preaching of the gospel pulls down Satan’s kingdom in the hearts of men.

Christ also confers His power and authority on every true child of God. He allows us to carry out His kingdom work without harassment or molestation from Satan and his cohorts. We have this delegated power and authority to destroy the works of Satan. The power is both offensive and defensive, and by it, we are able to walk over evil spirits, referred to here as serpents and scorpions.

Wicked men too may act as serpents and scorpions, and roar like lions, but we must use the authority we have from the Lion of the tribe of Judah to overcome them.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Every child of God has delegated authority from Christ; so, why not exercise it.
