Pastor Dr. Paul Enenche, a prominent figure, has provided a firsthand account of the grim realities in Yelwata, Benue State, where local sources reported over 200 people were killed, and the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Makurdi town.
In a recent social media update, Dr. Enenche described “horrible horrible horrible sights and smells” at the Yelwata massacre site. Her observations included “Rotten flesh. Burnt flesh. Burnt grains. Burnt buildings.”
He also recounted heartbreaking individual tragedies, stating, “Saw a man whose 6 children were killed, another whose wife and child were killed. He was out of town if not he would have been there as well.” The scene at Yelwata was further characterized by “Skeletons, decomposing bodies, skulls.”
At the IDP camp in Makurdi, Dr. Enenche noted the presence of “Homeless hungry women and children.” He confirmed that “relief materials have been brought to both sites.”
Concluding his post, Dr. Enenche urged continued prayers for Nigeria, expressing hope that “The end of this evil is close at hand in Jesus Name.” The post, which has been widely engaged with, including by gospel artist Steve Crown, highlights the severe humanitarian crisis and ongoing insecurity in the region.
