Eruku, Kwara State – Bandits launched a brazen attack on the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oke Isegun, in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, on Tuesday evening. The violent raid resulted in the shooting of the church pastor and the abduction of several worshippers.
The incident, which took place during an evening service held in preparation for a night vigil, has sparked intense tension in the community, which borders Kogi State.
Details of the Attack
Witness accounts and an online video of the incident reveal the worshippers were gathered when gunshots suddenly erupted.
Worshippers Fled: Some members sought cover behind chairs, but the attackers, who fired from outside, quickly gained entry into the building. Looting and Abduction: One of the attackers was seen carrying the bags of fleeing worshippers, while others entered through the main gate. At least two of the gunmen were masked, and one used a flashlight.
Casualties: A resident, Mr. Ayo, told Daily Trust that the bandits shot sporadically, killing the pastor and another church member instantly, while several others were forcibly taken away. Panic and Response: The gunmen struck shortly after 6 p.m., causing widespread panic. Another resident noted that local vigilante members immediately confronted the attackers in an effort to prevent further casualties.Residents confirmed that the community has experienced a rise in attacks recently.
