Today’s Scripture: 1 John 5:13 NIV
I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.
In the verse highlighted by the Apostle John, the central message urges the followers of God to be aware and certain of their possession of eternal life. The term “know” is derived from the Greek word “eido”, denoting comprehension or consciousness of a matter. Unfortunately, a significant number of Christians remain unaware of their inherent eternal life. They often seek it through prayer, fasting, or merely hope for it.
Some even harbor the belief that the essence of God’s life can only be experienced in the afterlife. This is a misconception. Eternal life isn’t just a distant promise or a mere aspiration for the future. Upon embracing Christianity, this eternal essence is infused into one’s spirit, instantly connecting the individual to the divine paternity of God. This life is synonymous with God’s own; it is superior, unyielding, and impervious to corruption. For instance, if an individual had a health affliction, the embodiment of this eternal life could eradicate the ailment.
Thankfully, with the continuous teachings and understanding of God’s Word, there is a growing awareness and appreciation of the profoundness of this divine life within the Christian community. When adversities arise, it’s essential to tackle them, empowered by the knowledge of our identity in Christ. Embrace the realization that you inhabit a sphere of unending joy, peace, and glory, where you hold dominion over evil forces and worldly challenges. Rejoice! Foster this awareness daily. Navigate your life with the mindset of someone bestowed with eternal life. No matter the obstacles encountered in this earthly realm, remember that the remedy resides within you. Praise be to God!
