Our Rock

Since you are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of your name lead and guide me. – Psalm 31:3 (NIV)

I reside on an island with a lot of stunning beaches. I think about the majesty of God’s wonderful creation as I experience the soft surge of the waves. All forms and hues of starfish and snails demonstrate the magnificence of God and His attention to detail.

I came upon a special rock one day while strolling along the beach’s edge, full of amazement. One kind of tiny, live algae was affixed to the rock, while several other varieties of algae drifted around and became entangled with one another. This discovery made me think about how God also provides us with abundant life at difficult times.

We can discover Christ in the same way that the algae found the rock—their source of life—despite the choppy waves. He is our pillar of support, our source of power and safety, and the one who grants us abundant life even in the face of life’s obstacles.

PRESENT DAY PRAYER
God the Creator, please enable us to never forget that you are our stronghold and rock. “Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,” is how we pray, following Jesus’ example. Come, thy kingdom. As it is in heaven, so also be it on earth. Give us our daily bread this day. And pardon our debts, just as we pardon our debtors. Keep us away from temptation and protect us from evil, for the kingdom, the power, and the glory belong to you forever. Amen. (KJV: Matthew 6:9–13).
