Gospel Icon and Nollywood’s “Angelic Voice” Onos Brisibi Dies at 55

The Nigerian music and film industries are in mourning following the passing of veteran gospel singer and Nollywood soundtrack icon Onos Brisibi, who died on Tuesday, March 23, 2026, at the age of 55. Her family confirmed the news in a statement on Thursday, revealing that she passed away after a prolonged illness. Known for her “angelic voice,” Brisibi was a pivotal figure in the 1990s, providing the unmistakable vocals for classic Nollywood films such as Domitilla and Blood Money.

Beyond her work in cinema, she was a dedicated worship leader in LoveWorld Ministries and a versatile artist who collaborated with major Nigerian musicians, including providing vocals for Lagbaja’s hit “Gra Gra.” Tributes have poured in from colleagues and family, including her cousin, veteran actor Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD), who described her as a gifted songstress whose music carried light and joy. She is survived by her daughter, Sarah, and her mother, leaving behind a legacy of spiritual ministry and cultural impact that spanned over four decades.
