Nigerian Government Rejects Trump’s ‘Country of Particular Concern’ Tag

Abuja, Nigeria – The Federal Government (FG) of Nigeria has officially rejected the declaration by United States President Donald Trump that Nigeria is a “Country of Particular Concern” (CPC), a designation based on alleged widespread killings of Christians in the country.

The FG’s response, disclosed in a statement signed by Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa on Saturday, November 1, maintained that President Trump’s claim “did not reflect the reality on the ground.”

Disputing the Allegation

The Nigerian government stood firm in its position, asserting that Nigerians across the country have historically “lived, worked and worshipped together in peace, irrespective of their religious differences and faith.”While expressing appreciation for the “global concern for human rights and religious freedom,” the FG insisted that President Trump’s allegation was incorrect.

The statement explained that President Bola Tinubu’s administration remains deeply committed to fighting terrorism, strengthening harmony between interfaith groups, and protecting the lives and rights of every Nigerian citizen.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs concluded by stating that Nigeria will continue to engage constructively with the U.S. government to deepen mutual understanding of regional dynamics and the country’s ongoing peace and security efforts.
