A recent report has brought renewed focus to the security crisis facing Nigerian Christians, alleging that over 52,000 Christians have been killed in Nigeria since 2009. The report states this figure represents 52,000 souls, including 52,000 mothers, fathers, and children who were “martyrs whose names the world refuses to remember.”
The report goes on to allege that more than 16,000 Nigerian Christians have been murdered for their faith in the last four years alone. According to the post, this violence includes “churches firebombed during worship” and “entire villages wiped out overnight” with women and children abducted, “never to return.”
The post asserts that while Nigerian government officials and others often label the violence as “bandit activity” and “farmer-herder clashes,” the facts indicate it is “systematic religious persecution.” The source also notes that Nigeria ranks #6 on the World Watch List for persecution.
