Hope Restored: John Aruma Regains Freedom

After days of agonizing uncertainty and a rollercoaster of emotions, there is finally a reason to breathe a sigh of relief: John Aruma has been released.

The University of Jos graduate, who was abducted on April 11 while traveling the notorious Jos–Kaduna highway, is officially out of captivity. His ordeal gripped social media, especially after harrowing rumors surfaced suggesting he had been killed—claims that were later debunked by his captors in a viral video.

The Journey to Freedom

The path to John’s release was fraught with tension:

  • The Abduction: Captured alongside other passengers during a routine trip.
  • The Ransom: Initial demands started at ₦30 million, eventually dropping to ₦10 million. Despite the family raising ₦6 million, the kidnappers initially refused to budge.
  • The Release: Details on the final negotiations remain private, but John was spotted looking weak but alive near Funtua, heading toward Zaria.

A Community Reunited

The news was confirmed by Makut Alfred Mashat, who shared the joyous update:

“GLORY BE TO GOD. JOHN ARUM HAS BEEN RELEASED FROM THE DEN OF THE KIDNAPPERS.”

While the physical and emotional scars of such an event will take time to heal, the UNIJOS community and John’s family are celebrating the only detail that matters right now: He is coming home.
