Two Christian men claimed they discovered offensive statements scrawled in red on pages of the Quran, the sacred book of Islam, which sparked the uproar.

A local religious figure was shown the shredded pages and reportedly urged Muslims to protest and demand the arrest of those responsible.

Yassir Bhatti, a 31-year-old Christian, was one of those to flee their homes.
He claimed that they had broken the windows and doors, removed refrigerators, couches, chairs, and other household objects before piling them up in front of the church to be burned.

“They were ruthless; they burned and desecrated Bibles as well.”

Amir Mir, the Punjabi province’s information minister, denounced the alleged blasphemy and stated that hundreds of police officers had been dispatched to the scene.
