Pope Francis’ Funeral to Take Place This Saturday

The Vatican has announced that Pope Francis’s funeral will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. local time in St. Peter’s Square. The dean of the College of Cardinals will officiate the ceremony.

Following a meeting to organize the funeral, burial, and the subsequent conclave to elect a new pope, the Vatican confirmed that public viewing of Pope Francis will commence on Wednesday in St. Peter’s Basilica, after a procession from his Vatican residence. In his final will, Pope Francis expressed his wish to be buried at the St. Mary Major Basilica.

His death on Easter Monday followed a period of ill health, including a significant hospital stay earlier this year for a respiratory crisis stemming from a chronic lung condition.
